Scope of Work

  • Work with guidance from City of Newcastle and Tetra Tech Coffey engineers
  • Responded to a rockfall risk identified by the University of Newcastle
  • Use of a 30-tonne excavator with hammer and bucket attachment
  • Using site won material and some import ENM to create a pad to enable reach to the top of the problem rock area
  • Reduced the height of an unstable rock column over three days
  • Managed works adjacent to the Bather’s Way shared path
  • Operated under partial area closure for safety
  • Restored the cliff side batter, site and rock mattress back to engineers specifications

Summary

Over a focused three-day period, BEEP safely carried out rock-breaking works to reduce the height of an unstable column along Newcastle’s coastal path. Working under partial closures and close supervision from engineering consultants, the team used a 30-tonne excavator to stabilise the site without impacting surrounding assets.

Site access was carefully managed, and the area was reinstated to engineering specifications using a mix of site-won and imported ENM materials — restoring both safety and structural integrity to the cliff face.
