Berrico Nature Reserve, NSW
BEEP delivered 9.6 km of fire trail upgrades on Upper Avon Road to bring the alignment up to FAFT Category 1 standard. The job involved heavy vegetation mulching, regrading the entire trail, building 12 new passing bays and 18 new turnaround bays, installing 18 rollovers and a rock-lined crossing, and capping the surface with more than 7,000 tonnes of quarry material.
Steep terrain, limited access, and major flooding events made the work challenging, but through close coordination with NPWS and RFS we kept the project on track. The result is a safer, all-weather trail that now gives firefighters and park managers reliable access when it matters most.

Scope of Work – Construction of 9.6 km Category 1 Fire Trail
The FAFT upgrade to Upper Avon Road in Berrico Nature Reserve was delivered to NPWS standards despite tough access and heavy weather impacts.
Over 7,000 tonnes of capping material were hauled in and placed to strengthen the 9.6 km trail and bring it up to Catgeory 1 standard.
The job ran over four months due to repeated wet weather and flooding delays, but on-ground works were completed safely and to spec once access reopened. The trail is now fully compliant, all-weather, and future-proofed for firefighting and park management.
