Rocky Point Saltmarsh

Overview

BEEP was engaged by Central Coast Council to deliver saltmarsh rehabilitation works at Rocky Point. The foreshore was excavated and reshaped, mulched with seagrass wrack, and planted out with saltmarsh species. Erosion controls were put in place and the site is now stabilised, providing habitat for shorebirds and long-term protection against erosion.

Scope of Work

Excavated and reshaped foreshore slope
Spread seagrass wrack and fill as mulch cover
Installed silt fencing, jute mesh and coir logs for erosion control
Planted 5,800 tubestock across 8 saltmarsh species
Constructed rock-lined drain for water management
Treated Nut Grass weed with glyphosate
Set up photo point monitoring and compliance reporting

Summary

Approx. 400m² of saltmarsh established and 60m of foreshore stabilised. 5,800 plants installed with an 80% survival rate.

Habitat created for shorebirds and erosion risks addressed. Site handed back in June 2023, clean and resilient with controls in place for ongoing weed management.
